Refining a Godly Character from Mothers and Women in the Bible

Characteristics of Women from the Bible:

Motherhood is often seen through a narrow lens, shaped by cultural expectations and traditional roles. However, the lives of godly mothers in the Bible invite us to stretch our understanding, offering a richer, more expansive view of what it means to be a mother.

Through women in the Bible, we learn how to live as a biblical, godly woman and mother, guided by the lives they lived.

Redefining what motherhood is by following examples of Godly mothers in the Bible. The Bible is an instruction manual for mothers.

  1. Real Faith: They truly believed in God and showed this in their lives. They shared their faith with their children and others.
  2. Willingness to Obey: They followed what God wanted, even when it was hard, dangerous, or unpopular (like Mary, Esther, and the widow at Zarephath).
  3. Caring and Loving: They protected and cared for others, sometimes when it was risky or hard for them (like the real mother in Solomon’s story and Hagar with Ishmael).
  4. Patience and Prayer: They kept praying and trusted God, even if they had to wait a long time (like Hannah and Elizabeth).
  5. Wise and Understanding: They made good choices and knew how to handle tough situations (like Abigail, Mother of Moses and the Shunammite woman).
  6. Spiritual Insight and Praise: They could see what God was doing and were quick to thank and praise Him (like Elizabeth, Mary, and Abigail).
  7. Telling Others About God: After meeting God, they told their families and others about Him (like the woman at the well and Lydia).
  8. Teaching Children: They helped teach children about God and raised the next generation (like Lois, Eunice, and Hannah).
  9. Brave and Strong: They had courage to do what was right, even when it was scary or went against what people expected (like Esther, Abigail, and Lydia).
  10. Giving and Welcoming: They shared what they had and welcomed people into their homes (like the Shunammite woman, the widow at Zarephath, and Lydia).
  11. Strong and Trusting in God: They went through hard times but kept trusting that God would help them (like Hagar).
  12. Honest and Good: They tried to be honest and live good lives (like Elizabeth and Hannah).
  13. Happy with What God Gave: They were satisfied and thankful for what God gave them, even if it was not much (like the Shunammite woman).
  14. Approached God with sincere hearts: They came to God honestly, putting all their feelings before Him without pretending. Their prayers were heartfelt and real, not just words.
  15. Prayed with persistence and honesty: They kept praying even when God didn’t answer right away. They spoke to Him honestly, sharing both their hopes and struggles without hiding anything.
  16. Asked boldly, sometimes against social expectations: They weren’t afraid to bring big or unusual requests to God, even if others thought it was strange or not allowed. Their courage showed they believed God cared and listened.
  17. Demonstrated trust, humility, and faith: They put their trust in God, choosing to rely on Him instead of themselves. They showed humility by admitting their need for help, and faith by believing He would do what was best.

By following the examples of godly mothers in the Bible, we learn that true motherhood is about nurturing faith, showing courage, leading with wisdom, and loving unconditionally. Motherhood, in its truest form, is less about fulfilling a role and more about embodying godly character in every sphere of influence.
