Listening to God’s voice as mothers.
It is not like the bible old testament times when God or an Angel appears to someone. Or a donkey or an animal speaks. Neither is it chaining the Holy Priest to go into the holy of holies.
After Jesus death on the cross the veil was torn so that the Holy of holies can be accessed by anyone. And God decided to live in our hearts through salvation. Make our hearts his home.
God speaks to us today differently.
How God speaks to us:
He speaks through dreams, visions and thoughts.
God speaks through His word.
God speaks through His prophets / pastors / teachers of the Word.
God speaks through poetry, songs, hymns, music, dance etc
God can also be persistent. You will have a burning desire for something. It stays on your heart for days until you do something about it.
God speaks to us through our motherly intuition. That He gave to us.
God also stops us in our tracks sometimes. Like Saul in the bible. Acts 9.
God allows natural disasters / events / circumstances to occur to prevent us from doing something and to speak to us.
God speaks through nature.
God speaks through creativity.
God speaks through children.
After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. 1 Kings 19:12
God speaks to us in a language we understand. He also speaks to us through the things we love to do. I love to journal, God often speaks to me in my prayer journal. I also love to create and God speaks whenever I am creating something with my hands.
Forgiveness allows God to speak to us.
Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Matthew 5:23-24
God also speaks to us through our gifts and talents.
How to learn God’s voice:
Through God’s grace.
Through spending time in prayer.
Through praise, worship, being still and silent so we can hear him speak.
By listening after praise and presenting our requests to God.
By actively listening to God when he speaks. And actively doing as we are told.
Definition of listen by Oxford dictionary “give one’s attention to a sound.”
When God speaks you feel at peace with the decision you are making.
When God speaks we have a conviction and a surety of something. Our mind is set on that thing.
When God speaks, He confirms His word in another way.
Through righteous living. ”These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children,“
”to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.“
Titus 2:5 NLT
But remember
“For by grace are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:8-10
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7
Then Elisha prayed, “Lord, please open his eyes and let him see.” So the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he saw that the mountain was covered with horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. (2 Kings 6:15-17
Elisha prayed and asked God. When we ask God, He will help us to learn His voice.
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. Mark 11:24
When we walk in faith as little as a mustard seed, we walk in God’s presence and thus we hear God speak and learn His voice.
For truly I tell you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20-21
When we set our minds on Jesus. Start the day with Him, think about him through the day, meditate on his word and go to bed with prayer.
Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’ Jeremiah 33:3.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Philippians 4:8
The fear and reverence for the Lord will teach us His voice.
Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Proverbs 31:30.
We learn to listen to His voice even as busy moms. When we go through our day and teach our children about Jesus.
While singing a worship song when changing diapers or listening to Christian audio books when cooking or washing the dishes. We learn God’s voice.
When we call on Him throughout our day.
Remember God gave us our children as a gift. So we use this gift to bring us closer to Him and understand Him more. As well as listen to His voice.
So make time everyday to spend with Jesus. We get to know Him more when we spend time with him. Especially in our Homemaking.
