Humans need water for many of the same reasons trees do. It keeps every part of our bodies alive and working properly. This post is a part series on “Being Planted by the Streams / Being Rooted.” Here’s how humans need water for life:

- Hydration & Body Temperature
- Water keeps your body cool by helping you sweat and regulate heat.
- It also keeps your mouth, eyes, and skin moist.
- Digestion & Nutrient Absorption
- Water helps break down food and carry nutrients to every cell in your body.
- Without enough water, digestion slows down and you can feel tired or bloated.
- Detox & Waste Removal
- Your kidneys use water to flush out toxins and waste through urine.
- It also helps prevent constipation by softening stool.
- Circulation & Oxygen Transport
- Blood is mostly water. it carries oxygen and nutrients throughout your body.
- When you’re dehydrated, your heart has to work harder.
- Cell Function & Energy
- Every single cell in your body needs water to make energy and stay balanced.
- Even mild dehydration can affect focus and mood.
Fun Fact:
Did you know that water exists throughout the body. Cells contain roughly 60% of all water in the body, with the rest existing in extracellular water, such as in the blood.
Most of the human body is water, with an average of roughly 60%.
| Body part | Water percentage |
| brain and heart | 73% |
| lungs | 83% |
| skin | 64% |
| muscles and kidneys | 79% |
| bones | 31% |
In conclusion:
Water keeps humans alive, healthy, and strong. It’s our most essential “nutrient.”
