How to be Set Free from Worry as a mama

Matthew 6:25–34

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life…”

I spent one whole morning being worried and mopping around. I was restless and complained, feeling pity for myself and very sad. The Holy Spirit invited me to a morning devotion, but I declined it and continued to worry.

When I finally decided to obey, I sat down, defeated, and listened. This is what the Lord told me about worry.

Worry is one of the most common struggles we face as mothers. We worry about provision. We worry about our future, our children’s future etc.

We worry about tomorrow. Yet in Matthew 6:25–34, Jesus gently but firmly calls us into a different way of living; a life marked by trust instead of anxiety.

What Not to Worry About

Jesus specifically names the areas that tend to consume our thoughts:

  • Life — our purpose, direction, and security
  • Food — daily provision
  • Drink — basic needs
  • Clothing — appearance and material provision
  • Tomorrow — the unknown future

Jesus shows us that worry does not add a single hour to our lives. It only drains our joy.

Lessons from Creation

Jesus gives us powerful visual examples:

  • Birds of the air — They don’t plant or harvest, yet God feeds them.
  • Flowers of the field — They don’t labor or spin, yet they are clothed in beauty greater than kings.
  • Grass of the field — Temporary and fragile, yet still cared for by God.

If God faithfully cares for what is temporary, how much more will He care for you? His beloved child?

What To Do Instead of Worry

Jesus gives us the answer:

“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

Instead of worrying, we are called to:

  • Have faith in God
  • Seek God
  • Live righteously

While worry focuses on what might go wrong. Faith focuses on God, who holds everything together.

How to Live This Out Daily

 Matthew 7:7–11

Jesus continues with practical instruction:

  • Ask — Bring your needs honestly to God.
  • Seek — Pursue His will above your own.
  • Knock — Step forward in obedience and expectancy.

God is not distant or reluctant. He is a good Father who delights in giving good gifts to His children.

Trusting God’s Bigger Plan

 Romans 8

Romans 8 reminds us that:

  • All things work together for good for those called according to His purpose.
  • We wait in hope, not despair.
  • The Holy Spirit strengthens us in weakness.

Freedom from worry doesn’t come from having all the answers. It comes from knowing we are held by a faithful God.

The Role of the Holy Spirit

When anxiety rises and words fail, the Holy Spirit steps in.

The Spirit:

  • Knows the mind of God
  • Intercedes for us
  • Prays on our behalf
  • Directs our steps
  • Strengthens us when we are weak

We are never navigating motherhood alone.

A Lifestyle of Anticipation

Faith is an active trust.

  • We wait in anticipation.
  • We hope boldly.
  • We lean on the Holy Spirit.
  • We walk in righteousness.

When we worry, we fear that it will all fall apart, while Faith hopes in God, who is working something greater than we can see.

Declaration of Freedom from worry

Today, I choose faith over fear.

I am set free from worry, decay, and fear.

God provides for me.

God directs my steps.

The Holy Spirit strengthens me.

All things are working together for my good.

I walk by faith and not by sight.

I’ll let tomorrow take care of itself by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Today, I will seek God first.

Shalom,
