What is Prayer?

Prayer means talking with God.

Prayer is a continuous relationship of being in communication with God.

It is a way to connect and communicate with Him.

Just like any relationship, prayer needs to be nurtured or practiced regularly.

It’s not only about speaking to God, but also about listening to what He wants to say back to us.

As Christians, God wants to be close to us, like a friend we talk to every day.

A long time ago, people had to go through priests or perform special rituals to talk to God.

These included times when He spoke through animals, burning or non-burning bushes, storms, the sky, or only through a priest tied with a rope in the Holy of Holies, or via burning sacrifices. Yet, God always spoke.

Now, because of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, anyone can talk to God anytime, anywhere. We no longer need to wait for a special place or a specific person to help us.

Prayer is not just giving God a list of things we want. It’s about having a real conversation, which involves both speaking and listening.

God speaks to us in different ways, for example, in our hearts, through the Bible, or sometimes through other people.

Most importantly, God listens and cares about what we say every time we pray.

It’s important for us as mamas to maintain this relationship of communication with God. We’ll explore this more in the next few posts.

Shalom,

Following God’s Ways,

Natasha Chetty.
